Frimley Park Hospital is rated as an Outstanding local hospital by the Care Quality Commission, much-loved by our community. It’s particularly special to me as its staff saved my son's life, and I have fundraised for the Frimley Park Special Baby Care Unit.
Following the pandemic, it’s clear that we need the NHS more than ever, and my Conservative colleagues are wholeheartedly committed to providing the appropriate innovation and funding, and I’m supporting services locally.
A new Frimley Park Hospital
Delivering a new hospital for Surrey Heath is an investment I am proud to have secured. I wholeheartedly backed Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust’s bid to the Government’s New Hospital Programme, and I worked together with neighbouring MPs and ministerial colleagues to ensure its success. This demonstrates this Conservative Government’s ongoing commitment to providing state-of-the-art facilities to ensure world-class provision of healthcare for NHS patients by replacing outdated infrastructure, and a new Frimley Park Hospital will safeguard crucial local healthcare services for generations to come. During my visit to Frimley Park last October, I discussed potential locations with the Chief Executive, and I’m thrilled work is well underway to find a suitable site for the brand new hospital.
Supporting GP services
There are an estimated 23,000 more patient care staff working in general practice in constituencies across England than in 2019, and I’ve welcomed news that there are 50% more doctors, nurses and other patient care staff working in general practice in Surrey Heath. This includes roles such as dispensers, health care assistants, phlebotomists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, therapists and others. I recognise, however, that many patients continue to experience difficulty in accessing appointments and services, and I‘m continuing to work with colleagues and healthcare providers on the provision of local services.
Better mental-health services
I’ve been arguing for better support for child and adolescent mental-health care, and I'm encouraged that there is now £1.4 million in Government funding for The Pioneer Project in Frimley, a short-stay residential unit for children and young people in mental-health crisis. This helps to secure crucial and much-needed support, and I will continue to work with colleagues to secure further improvements.
