On 3 December 2021, Michael Gove, MP for Surrey Heath, planted a Hornbeam tree outside his constituency office in Windlesham as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
In 2022, the Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee and, to mark the occasion, a unique tree-planting initiative has been launched to enhance the environment now and for generations to come.
With a focus on planting sustainability, the initiative invites individuals, community groups, businesses, and others across the UK to plant trees. As well as planting new trees, the Queen’s Green Canopy Initiative will also protect a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the UK and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate her 70 years of service.
To get involved in the Queen’s initiative by planting a tree yourself, helping to create a legacy in honour of the Queen’s leadership of the Nation that will benefit future generations, please visit: https://queensgreencanopy.org/.
The tree planting season continues through o March 2022, and you can add your Jubilee tree to the QGC map. You can even find templates on the QGC website for an official plaque to mark your tree.
