Last week, Michael Gove, MP for Surrey Heath, met the Managing Director of South Western Railway, Claire Mann, to discuss the rail services in his constituency. Surrey Heath is an economic hub waiting to be further unlocked by faster, more accessible and more reliable trains, and Michael has been fighting for improvements to local services for a number of years.
Michael Gove commented:
‘I know that many constituents will be aware that I have been pushing for improved services and faster journey times for several years.
Whilst it is frustrating that the hugely complicated and intricate network of lines leaves little leeway at present for the tweaking of timetables, I was encouraged to learn that SWR is hoping to introduce a brand new fleet of faster, more spacious, and more reliable trains towards the end of the year, which should free up capacity leading to greater flexibility across the network – hopefully leading to faster journey times for those in Surrey Heath. I will be sure to continue to follow how this progresses.’
Michael will write again to South Western Railways later in the year to enquire about the introduction of the new fleet, including more specifically how it will affect services in Surrey, and he will post any updates in due course. In the meantime, if you would like to read more about what Michael has been doing to press for an improved rail service for his constituents, you can find more details here.
